When I see a draft with several in-text-comments my gut feels heavy and tight. I feel frustrated and scared and run straight into fight, flight, or freeze. I messed up. I know nothing. I’ll need to revise the whole thing. I’ve learned to step away—make a cup of tea, walk my dog, practice yoga. When I return to the marked up text, it doesn’t feel as heavy and invariably the edits are easy fixes—areas where I haven’t been clear but couldn’t see because I was too close to the content.
